NEC to supply Swiss Post with automated mail processing systems

NEC Corporation, an integrator of IT and network technologies, has signed a contract with national postal operator Swiss Post for the implementation of 13 Culler Facer Cancellers (CFC) automated mail sorting systems by February 2019.

The CFCs automatically identify the destination of small postal items and process them based on their size, thickness and weight, as well as adjust their alignment and manage the application of postmarks.

In addition to being able to effectively sort small size packages that have conventionally been difficult for machines to process, the new CFCs are capable of processing as many as 38,000 postal items per hour measuring the size of C4 envelopes (used for A4 size documents), with a thickness of 8mm (0.3in) and weight of 300g (0.66 lb). The machines will be deployed across three of the post’s major sorting centers.

NEC previously supplied Swiss Post with eight flat sorting machines for automatically sorting large postal items as part of its ‘ReEngineering of the Mail Automation (REMA)’ project, which was intended to improve the sorting structure of Swiss Post’s mail processes.
